Osensei Morihei Ueshiba

The word "aikido" is formed of three kanji:

  • 合 – ai – joining, unifying, combining, fit
  • 気 – ki – spirit, energy, mood, morale
  • 道 – dō – way, path
The art of Aikido is the 'Way of combining forces'. 'Aiki' refers to the fundamental principle of integrating the body with the movements of the enemy, flowing alongside instead of opposing incoming forces, effectively protecting oneself while applying non-lethal force to incapacitate a foe with minimal effort.

Aikido was created by Ōsensei ("Great Teacher") Morihei Ueshiba (植芝 盛平). Developed in the 1920s through the amalgation of various martial arts he studied, Aikido is much influenced by 'Daitō-ryū aiki-jūjutsu', along with Swordsmanship (Kenjutsu) as a basis for its technical structure. The core concepts of Aikido is far more than counter tactics and self-defense, it is also the perfection of the spirit, mind and physical fitness.

To date, Aikido is renowned all around the world for its practices and philosophy. The scene in Malaysia continues to grow exponentially as the need for self-defense skills grow in popularity. The highly-trained masters of the Shoreikan Dojo are eager to assist you in honing your self-defense skills. The art is easily accessible to fellows of all ages, more advanced manuevers. However, require the overseeing of a properly trained master.
